Almost 250 years ago, against the wishes of King Louis XVI a young Marquis de Lafayette disembarked a ship near Georgetown, South Carolina onto American soil with the hope of helping to bring liberty to the American colonies. His bravery and leadership in battle made him a hero to the young country and a lifelong friend with many of our founding fathers.
Fifty years later Lafayette returned with much celebration to the shores of our country. As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of that trip, Bill Davies, Vice Chairman of South Carolina’s 250th Anniversary State Commission, will help take us through this remarkable man’s life and his time spent in South Carolina.
